Hi, I’m Oliver from Mechanised and today I’m going to show you five ways to increase traffic to your website.

If your website is just sat there doing nothing but you want more sales and enquiries then this video is for you.

One of the best ways to increase the number of sales and enquiries is to increase the number of visitors reaching your website but you can’t do that without a bit of the old search engine optimisation.

If you optimise your website you stand a better chance of appearing in Google when customers are searching for your products or services. So it makes business sense to spend a little bit of time optimising your website.

Before I get into it if you like the video, like the video, and in the comments tell me why you struggle to optimise your website.

Okay, let’s get into it.

#1 — Google search console is your friend

Google Search Console will show you which pages are your most popular and best of all which keywords people are using to find them. If you don’t have Google Search Console set up then take a look at my previous video where I detail how to do it. I’ll put a link in the description to the video for you.

Using Google Search Console is an excellent test to see if your website is optimised or not. If your search queries match your page intent then great news, you’re on the right track.

For example, if your running trainer’s page has lots of impressions for “running trainers” and “trainers for running” then the content matches the search intent.

If the top search query has nothing to do with your content then you’re going to have to do a little work.

So what you need to do now is make a note of the top search queries.

#2 — Spy on your competitors and steal their traffic

I guarantee there’s a competitor in your industry that’s always sitting at the top of Google getting all the traffic and getting the first pick of sales. If you feel a bit sneaky doing this don’t worry. Competitive research is common practice in SEO and often where keyword research starts.

A great tool for this is SEMrush. Enter your competitor’s URL in the domain overview tool and go to the top organic keyword section. Here you’ll find a list of keywords the site ranks for, its position on Google and the percentage of traffic it generates for the site.

Simply find which keywords are relevant to your business and make a note of them.

#3 — Improve your rankings with keywords

Now that we have a good list of keywords it’s time to apply them to your website. Now there are two main places to put them on your website. That’s the meta title and within the content.

Starting with a meta title, which is the blue link in Google which visitors click on to reach your website. You want the most important keyword you want to rank for to be at the start of the title.

For example, if you want to rank for the word “trainers” you want the word “trainers” to be at the start of the title or as far left as possible.

If you offer services in one location then you should also add the location to your meta title. So, for example, if you have a trainer shop in Manchester you want the meta title to have “trainer shop Manchester” or “Manchester trainer shop” at the start of the title.

Other places to include your most important keywords are the H1 headings and naturally throughout your content. H1 headings signal to Google what the content is about. So it’s a really good idea to include your keywords here.

Next, you want to add keywords naturally throughout your content. Now we’re saying naturally because you don’t want every other word to be a keyword and you could get penalised for keyword stuffing. A good tip here is to remember that you’re writing for humans and not just for Google.

#4 — Get your visitors to click on your links

Now that you’ve grabbed your customers attention by using the meta title, you need to give them a reason to click by using a meta description.

The meta description is the small black text underneath the blue link that appears in Google Search and the aim of this is to increase your click-through rate and get more visitors to your website. If Google sees you’ve got a good click-through rate and your link is being clicked on more than the ones above it you’ll receive an improvement in your rankings.

So what should your description include in order to increase its click-through rate? Well, you should try using call-to-action keywords such as “buy now”, “download now”, “free delivery”, “next day delivery”, “one-year guarantee”, etc.

#5 — Create content and rank for thousands of keywords

The more content you have on your website will give you more opportunities to rank and target different keywords. The more keywords you rank for will mean more traffic to your website but the content needs to serve a purpose and be worthy of ranking. It can’t just be a quick 200-word piece of rubbish.

Content and keywords can be grouped into two categories, selling and educational.

Selling keywords are directly related to the products and services you’re selling. For example, “trainers”, “cupcakes” and “computer repair”. Selling keywords or short tail keywords are generally harder to rank for because they have a high search volume which makes them more desirable and highly competitive.

Content created around these keywords should be on your core service and product pages.

Educational keywords are generally questions customers are asking about your products and services. For example, “which trainer should I use for basketball?”, “how do I make chocolate cupcakes?”, and “how to repair a laptop screen?”.

Educational keywords or long tail keywords are generally easier to rank for because they have a lower search volume which makes them less desirable and less competitive.

Content created around these keywords should be on your blog or a dedicated page and then you can internally link to your services and products and in turn, boost their ranking.

So that concludes today’s video. So if you want to start increasing the traffic to your website make sure you use the tips in this video to improve your website.

If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below and I’ll make sure that I get back to everyone thanks again for watching and see you next time.
